We are building a house. Check out the pictures so far. We purchased a 3.3 acre lot on the edge of town that was completely wooded (thickly). I will try and keep up with the progress here. A link to our house plans: Here is about what it will look like when completed. I superimposed a picture of the actual concept house onto our landscape...not too bad huh?: Tradewinds Construction - General Contractor and Owner Gary Gooch 251-366-4503 Loblolly Enterprises - Dirt and Bulldozer work (Harmon and Verdie Brannan) 601-947-8964 Robbie Cumbest - Plumbing 228-219-0640 Billy Robertson B&K Construction (vinyl siding) 601-928-0498 Scott Mitchell - Sheetrock 601-508-1875 Jonathan Eubanks - Cabinets 601-508-0380 Lee Tanner - Stairs and Mantle 228-382-2100 Top Hat Fireplace Store - Chimney and Stone Fireplace 228-832-7648 Ty Thompson - Carpet & Vinyl flooring 228-588-3348 Daniel Smith - Electrician/Plumbing/Framing/Engineer - 601-947-3592 5/25/07 Here's where we are now. The major things inside we completed this week were the staircase, the mantle and the floor sealing (which I finished up this morning at about 12 am). We are moving in tomorrow. Lee Tanner - Stairs and Mantle 228-382-2100 (I liked the way he signed the mantle.)
5/8/07 The have the driveway completely done now, but I didn't get a good picture yet. There are some of the landscaping below as well. We have set the move in date for May 26th. We are certainly ready. 4/3/07 Some assorted pictures. I have been slacking lately on updates. 3/12/07 Ok, it has been hectic. We have over half the painting complete, kitchen cabinets are done, and bath room vanities are staged. Electrical trim-out is nearly complete we have a few bugs to chase but we are finished for the most part. Here are some new pictures of the progress. 2/23/07 Columns are all installed. Billy will have to install all the metal before we finish those out. The Stoners are done and wow what an awesome product. I was very pleased with how the chimney turned out. The only part left on the chimney is the interior and they will come back after we have painted to finish up then. The sheetrock is shaping up. All the corners have been installed and they are beginning to sand. The sheetrockers should be completely done by Wednesday, that includes putting the finish on and priming the walls, as well as putting the finish on and painting the ceiling. After that we will be ready to start painting walls, which we will do ourselves...for the most part.
2/19/07 The "Stoners" are well past 1/2 complete on the chimney, and it looks much better than the pictures tell. You can't really see it, but the chimney cap is bronzed aluminum and looks really great. I wasn't real sure what to expect, but I am very pleased with the result. The sheetrockers are making great progress and are estimating completion by next Wednesday February 28. We will be ready to paint at that point. I am going to get the trim tomorrow from Lowes and we will begin pre-painting that for installation. I have started installing the columns with the help of some buddies (Ben Proctor and Zac Robinson...well mostly Ben), so here's where we are at this point: Some shots of the chimney, the pictures don't do it justice. Evie working HARD! Chimney on 2/18/07. 2/8/07 Sheetrock hanging will be complete tomorrow. The finisher will arrive Monday and is estimating about 2 weeks for completion. He will paint the ceiling and prime the walls for us. Our cabinets have been built and the doors should be arriving this weekend. The guys will begin staining and sealing this weekend. The countertops were ordered and are expected to be in in three weeks, at which point the cabinets should be complete. 1/28/07 Floors are done. This was an all-nighter since the sheet rock was going to be delivered the next day. Loria and the kids were scrubbing for hours to get the red clay and dirt out of the score lines in the floor and it was CLEAN when they finished. I stapled up plastic around the bottom of all the walls to prevent the acid from damaging the insulation and wiring and we sprayed the stain on Sunday night at about 7 pm. The stain dried and I started moping it up at about 8:30, then me and Zac Robinson did another clean-up to get all the disintegrated mop strings and other stuff up before sealing. I started sealing at about 11 pm and finished at around 3 am or so. This was done with a 1 to 1 mixture of Zylene and a syrup like sealer. I used about 6 gallons of this mix on the entire floor. Here are some pictures of the process.
Finished product. I will get a better picture later. It looks really great. 1/21/07 The insulator has started today and will be finished tomorrow. There are some pictures with a shiny foil in them, this is a radiant barrier that I installed in all the non-accessible attic spaces. It has an R value of around 20 and is only a little thinker than a sheet of paper. This will greatly reduce the amount of radiant heat that is transferred into the attic spaces and will help with heating and cooling. The thing with all the hoses is our manifold plumbing system. Each plumbing fixture has its own circuit in the manifold block and can be shut off individually. So if you want to change out a faucet you just turn off the valve for that fixture and it doesn't affect the rest of the house. 1/11/07 The roof on the back part of the house is done. The roofer only works on the weekends, so it is a little slower than we anticipated, but he does great work. 1/3/07 The fireplace is installed. This is a Heatilator unit, which is 42 inches wide and 30 inches deep. It will easily fit a 3 foot long log. The guys who installed this will also do the stone work on the inside and outside of the chimney. 12/26/06 We are about 95% complete on the siding. We had a delay from the supplier that held us up for a while, but we are back on track now. The roofer has gotten started and should be able to start back up on the 28th. The plumber has completed his rough-in and I have the A/C installer starting on some preliminaries this week until the roofer is finished. 12/13/06
12/6/06 I have been slacking on the pictures lately. We are sitting about about 80% completion on the siding thanks to Billy and his great crew! And the windows finally came in...Whoo Hoo! 11/14/06 Billy Robertson of B&K Construction has started the installation of the siding. We decide on an insulated vinyl siding product made by Crane. It is called CraneBoard, pretty nice looking stuff, we also like the R4 insulating value and the 160 mph wind rating. From about 6 feet away it looks just like wood lap siding. 11/7/06 Present progress. Since you can't see inside yet I will give a little update of our progress. We are about 90% finished with the wiring, I finished tying in all the recessed lights and bathroom fan fixtures tonight. My best friend Daniel Smith has been doing all the "thinking" for that project and giving me homework to do each evening and putting in several weekend work days. I owe him huge for this one! We have contracted a siding installer who should be able to get started this week, we have also contracted a roofer who will start on December 8th after the siding guy is completely finished. We have contracted an A/C installer and he will begin work in a week or so. The plumber is also coming for his next phase in the next few days So life gets even busier! 11/3/06 The framing is done, windows and doors are in (mostly...that's another story) and we are ready for siding and shingles. Most everything else since the last report has been happening on the inside, so I haven't been taking pictures. I tried to get a good picture of the front door (Loria did a great job on selecting it!).
10/9/06 The framing should be finished this week. 10/2/06 The felt is now on. 9/26/06 More progress. 9/16/06 We were out of town for a week. Wow! Mr. David thinks that he will start putting the roof decking on next week and dried-in in 2 weeks! 9/6/06 More done up top. 9/5/06 First day on the second floor stud walls! 8/31/06 Floor decking is down for the upstairs. 8/30/06 Floor Joists are in! 8/28/06 8/25/06 The first floor nearly complete. 8/24/06 8/23/06
8/21/06 8/18/06 More progress. 8/17/06 Now we are getting somewhere!
8/11/06 We have lumber and the framers have started with the front walls.
7/29/06 There be squares here! Loria and I cut 20 inch by 20 inch squares into the slab, which we will stain sometime later. This took about 12 hours of work with the concrete saw. 7/18/06 The slab is done! 6/30/06 The plumber showed up to do his stuff for the slap preparation. We chose to use our own plumber, as the builder's guy would have to drive an hour each way to the site. Plus our plumber has been recommended by several friends. His name is Robbie Cumbest (228-219-0640) and he and his crew arrived at 8 am and started work at about 830, as I drove up at 11 am they were pulling out. The next step is for Gary (the builder) to start digging the footings around the outside of the foundation forms. This should take a day or so and then we will be ready for the concrete. 6/28/06 I have been working with Harmon and Verdie Brannan (Brannan & Brannan Hunts Inc. & Loblolly Enterprises 601-947-8964) who have been doing all the dirt prep work and they are nearly finished with backfilling the slab form. The plumber will be coming Friday and will be finished with that part Friday evening. We will be ready to start poring the slab then. 6/21/06 I spoke with the builder this morning and his forming crew should be able to get started at the end of this week or the beginning of next week! Most people around here are on six month waiting lists to get started, while material costs are rising by the week. Dang they were fast. This was done before 1 pm and they started around 10 am. 6/8/06 The dozer and dirt work are done. 6/2/06 After 3 days of dozer work and 320 yards of dirt here we are.
