21 Reasons

Homeschool Lacking

Why do we homeschool?

  1. Chiefly because we believe that this is what God commands:

"And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart.  You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up." Deuteronomy 6:6,7

This is an "all day" deal.  It can only be done if you spend the whole day with your children and is virtually impossible when they spend 8 to 10 hours per day 2/3rds of the year away from home.

"My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding, and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the LORD and find the knowledge of God." Proverbs 2:1-5

  1. It is the parents responsibility (actually specifically the father's) to train and instruct the children:

"Fathers do not exasperate your children, instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord." Ephesians 6:4

"Listen, my son, to your father's instruction and do not forsake your mother's teaching. They will be a garland to grace your head and a chain to adorn your neck." Proverbs 1:8-9

The academic, social and safety benefits of homeschooling are really secondary to the number one reason.

I found a few articles that address some issues concerning home education and government education:
